FAQ
Frequently asked questions about ZeroLedger.
What is ZeroLedger?
Yield bearing digital cash on-chain: your balance is many "banknotes" (commitments) with hidden values. When you pay, you burn some banknotes and create new ones for the recipient. Observers see movements between wallets but not amounts—only you and the recipient know the values.
How does privacy work in ZeroLedger?
Balance is stored as unspent commitments (Poseidon hashes) on the public ledger. To transact you produce a zero-knowledge proof (inputs = outputs) so values stay hidden. Transaction metadata is encrypted (quantum-resistant) for the recipient. The app also uses decoys (tiny payments to random addresses), stealth addresses, and invoice proxies so your real payments blend in.
How does compliance work?
Sender and receiver are public; OFAC screening runs via Service Node and Paymasters. You can optionally share full transaction details with regulators—they can verify them by recomputing commitments.
What is a View Account?
A separate account created at setup that holds encryption keys and decrypts transaction metadata. You authorize it once with a signature from your main wallet. It never holds funds—only keys. Whoever has View Account access can see your private balance and history; encryption is quantum-resistant.
How do I get started with ZeroLedger?
- Sign in (email or wallet: MetaMask, Coinbase, Safe, Rainbow, WalletConnect).
- Choose embedded wallet or connect an external one.
- Authorize your View Account (one-time signature).
- Deposit to turn public tokens into private commitments.
- Send private payments to any address or ENS.
- Withdraw when you want public tokens again.
The app uses meta-transactions by default, so you can go gasless when a paymaster sponsors.
How fast are zero-knowledge proofs?
Proofs run on your device. Typical times (e.g. M1 laptop):
- Under 2s: Deposit, 1–2 and 2–1 spends
- ~3s: 1–3, 3–1, 2–2, 2–3, 3–2, 3–3 spends
- Over 3s: 6–1 and 12–1 aggregation (e.g. consolidation)
What networks does ZeroLedger support?
The protocol operates on Base L2 network.
Does ZeroLedger has a token?
Yes. ZeroLedger Governance Token lives native to Base L2.
What tokens can I use in ZeroLedger App?
USDC on Base. More tokens can be added via the same contracts later.
Can I use ZeroLedger on mobile?
Yes. Responsive UI with swipe between tabs. Use MetaMask Mobile, Coinbase Wallet, WalletConnect, or the embedded wallet in the browser—no separate app required.
What is consolidation and why do I need it?
Your private balance is made of many small "banknotes" (commitments). The protocol allows at most 3 input banknotes per spend or withdraw. If your balance is split across more than three, you can't move a large share in one go. Consolidation is a self-payment that merges up to 16 banknotes into fewer, larger ones so you can spend or withdraw more in a single transaction. The app shows a "consolidate" button when that helps.
What are invoices in ZeroLedger?
Internal: Another ZeroLedger user pays you (private, instant). External: Anyone sends ERC-20 to a generated one-time address; a paymaster turns it into your private balance.
Do I need ETH for using ZeroLedger
Paying for transaction with ETH is completely optional. By default, a paymaster submits your tx and pays gas; you pay in the token (or nothing if they sponsor).
What should I do if I'm experiencing issues?
- Refresh the page (fixes many sync/display glitches).
- Reset wallet: Menu → More → Reset Wallet, then sign in again. Local data is cleared; on-chain balance stays. You’ll re-sync after login.
