Using ZeroLedger on Testnet

This guide explains how to use the ZeroLedger web app on the Base Sepolia testnet, including how to get test tokens and what limitations to expect.

Network

  • Network: Base Sepolia (testnet)
  • Purpose: Sandbox environment for development, demos, and experimentation
  • Real funds: Testnet tokens have no real-world value and are for testing only.

Test Token: USDZ0

ZeroLedger uses a mock USD-like ERC-20 token on testnet:

  • Symbol: USDZ0
  • Type: ERC-20 test token
  • Usage: You can deposit USDZ0 into the Vault to mint private commitments (banknotes), send private payments, and withdraw back to public USDZ0.

Getting Test Tokens (Faucet)

  1. Open the Menu tab in the ZeroLedger web app.
  2. Click Faucet.
  3. Confirm the request; the faucet will mint a small amount of USDZ0 to your public on-chain balance on Base Sepolia.

Important: Faucet tokens go to your public balance. To use them privately:

  1. Go to Deposit in the Menu tab.
  2. Choose the amount of USDZ0 to convert.
  3. Confirm the deposit to mint private commitments.

After the deposit completes, your Private Balance in the Wallet tab will increase, and you can start sending private payments.

Typical Testnet Workflow

  1. Connect a wallet / sign in (embedded or external wallet).
  2. Get USDZ0 test tokens via the Faucet.
  3. Deposit some or all of your public USDZ0 to create private commitments.
  4. Send private payments or create invoices to test different flows.
  5. Withdraw back to public USDZ0 if you want to interact with other dApps on Base Sepolia.

Known Testnet Limitations

  • Stability: Testnet infrastructure (RPC, indexer, Service Node, paymasters) may occasionally be restarted or redeployed. If you see temporary errors, wait a bit and try again.
  • Faucet rate limits: To prevent abuse, the faucet may limit how often you can request tokens from the same address.
  • Protocol parameters: Limits like:
    • Up to three input banknotes per spend/withdraw transaction.
    • Up to 16 commitments merged in a single consolidation transaction. These parameters are the same ones enforced on testnet and are useful to keep in mind when testing large or fragmented balances.

Troubleshooting on Testnet

  • If balances look out of sync, refresh the app and wait for synchronization.
  • If a transaction seems stuck, check the Activity tab and the linked block explorer entry.
  • If issues persist, follow the steps in the main FAQ "What should I do if I'm experiencing issues?" and, if needed, reach out in the support Telegram group.
